Mr. Terpstra,
I fully agree with you, and I am not the only one. It is, IMHO, unacceptable to award players, who did not played for several months, with points in games where position is equal because they obstructed the game and did not played more than ten moves or so. For example, Mr. Navikauskas did not played any move from beginning of the October and used from 280 up to 300 days while his opponents have used no more than 20 days, except in one single case of 60 days. Such obstruction should be sanctioned either by removal from tournament or by declaring all his games in favour of his opponents.
Unfortunately, we are not organisers of that tournament so we can not make any decision. Recently, we started to limit time in all tournaments that we are organising. I think that 120 days for 50 moves plus 50 days to end is enough, especially when some extra days are allowed for vacation. Additionally, I agree that in some special situations players can be allowed to use even more time, but not when it is obvious that (s)he is intentionally obstructing the game(s).
Best regards,
